TALLAHASSEE - In the Capitol, it's well known that Gov. Jeb Bush is an e-mail addict who never strays far from his laptop or hand-held computer. Now he wants to wire every Floridian.
Bush said Tuesday he is considering a plan to give everyone in Florida a free e-mail address - all 16-million of them.
"You live in paradise, you get an e-mail address," Bush said during a meeting he called to explore how government can strengthen families. Free e-mail addresses might help schools connect with parents, he said.
The project would be "paid for by the government and our partners in technology," Bush said. "We're pricing it out to determine if it is a viable concept," Bush said.
"The goal is to connect people to their government, create a delivery system for all sorts of things."
Such as? The governor didn't say.
Bush said he wants the free e-mail addresses to be part of the MyFlorida.com government web site, which already gives citizens a place to e-mail him (jeb.bush@myflorida.com)
