The classic rock band Boston, known for its meticulous recording habits and its disdain for the music video, comes to Tampa on Tuesday. Expect to hear all the standards - More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Long Time, Don't Look Back - plus songs from 2002's Corporate America.
Boston lead singer Brad Delp recently chatted with Times pop music critic Gina Vivinetto. See that story in Sunday Arts this weekend.
Boston performs at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. $30.50-$43.50. (813) 287-8844 or (727) 898-2100.
Go wild with The Jungle Brothers
The Jungle Brothers were part of hip-hop's famed Native Tongues collective in the late 1980s. Along with Queen Latifah, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, the Jungle Brothers added "Afrocentrism," organic beats and a positive message to the world of rap music. Though the trio's albums never sold as well as its peers', the Brothers' Straight Out the Jungle and Done By the Forces of Nature are two overlooked late 1980s classics.
The Brothers, featuring ultra-creative rappers Mike Gee and Baby Bam, made a habit, too, of taking long layoffs between albums, always returning with wonky, experimental music that seems to push the act further into obscurity. All That We Do from 2002 is an eclectic mix of house music, old-school party raps and soulful jams.
The Jungle Brothers perform with Black Sheep at 8 p.m. Monday at the Orpheum, 1902 Avenida Republica de Cuba, Ybor City. $15. (813) 248-9500.
