LARGO - An 80-year-old woman was killed Saturday night when her 1991 Pontiac veered off Eighth Avenue SW and crashed into a utility pole, Largo police officials said.

"At this point, we don't know a whole lot more than that," said Sgt. Mike Renault of the Largo Police Department. "But we do know it was a single-car crash and she was killed instantly."

Although the driver's identity was not released, officials said she was 80 years old.

An investigation into the crash, which occurred about 8:50 p.m. just west of Clearwater-Largo Road, is pending.
