Coast Guard Auxiliary has 64th anniversary

BRANDON - The Coast Guard Auxiliary celebrated 64 years of service Monday. The Auxiliary volunteers have helped the Coast Guard keep the coastal waterways safe since before World War II.

American Colonists honor students, teachers

BRANDON - Four high school students were awarded medals by the John Donaldson Jr. chapter of the American Colonists.

Charlotte Johnson of Armwood High, Victoria Daniels of Brandon High, Amber Allen of Durant High and Michele Jacobs of Bloomingdale High were honored for outstanding achievement in the Junior ROTC program.

The American Colonists chapter also awarded certificates to Amber Norris and Sherill Farrel of Cimino Elementary for their creative teaching of colonial history.

New officers elected for Beta Sigma Phi chapter

BRANDON - Donna Hart was elected president of the Laureate Epsilon Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Other officers elected were Liz Blythe, vice president; Sue Vaughn, recording secretary; Amelia Pounds, corresponding secretary; and K Poletti, treasurer. The officers were elected at the home of outgoing president Mary Lee Bentley, who was selected as the chapter's Woman of the Year.

Four men recognized as exemplary fathers

WIMAUMA - Pascual Cisneros, Javier Izaguirre, Victor Pecina and the Rev. William Cruz were announced as this year's Padres Ejemplares at the third annual Exemplary Father Celebration on June 14. The four were given awards and gift certificates for being model fathers, community leaders and good Samaritans.
