The District 5 Major Baseball All-Star tournament began Monday with a bang as Northwest crushed Baypoint 16-1. Shawn Caylor had three hits and scored three runs, and Ryan Boberg drove in five. Larry Schroeder pitched four innings for the win.
Jordan Wilson knocked in the winning run in Azalea's 3-2 victory against Cross Bayou with a double. Zane O'Conner allowed the only runs in the fifth. MAJOR BASEBALL: In District 12 on Sunday, East Lake's Kyle Westwood and Clearwater's Nick Jimbrone went six innings before turning it over to the bullpen. Jimbrone held East Lake to one hit, but Westwood's run-scoring double in the seventh allowed Chad Reiss to score with the winning run. Martin Franco struck out the side in the seventh for East Lake.
Garrett Lopt held Largo American to four hits, helping Safety Harbor win 5-1. Ryan Kittle hit a home run and drove in four in Palm Harbor's 8-4 victory against Hudson.
Saturday, Joey Lopez tossed a complete game, striking out eight as Oldsmar beat Largo National 6-3. Andrew Goot had three hits and drove in a run. JUNIOR BASEBALL: Dunedin American defeated Hudson 18-6 on Monday. Derrick Morris hit a two-run home run, and Cory Eberle had four hits.
Mike O'Brien had two hits for Palm Harbor American in a 5-3 victory against Clearwater. Taylor Tillung pitched a complete game. David Gubernick, Bryan Torok and Nate Nicholson led the attack in Palm Harbor's 20-4 victory against Hudson. Gubernick hit an inside-the-park home run, and Nicholson had four hits.
Ryan Messmore had three of Countryside's 11 hits in an 8-4 victory against Dunedin National. Frank Ferguson allowed two hits over five innings for Countryside.
SENIOR BASEBALL: Palm Harbor National began the defense of its District 12 title Sunday with a 7-0 victory against Dunedin American. Kyle Midgette allowed to three hits and struck out nine.
Greg Feeley and Jason Salcon helped Largo beat Hudson 13-3.
MINOR BASEBALL: Clearwater advanced to the District 12 semifinals with an 8-5 victory against Largo American. Pyne Barrington, Sawyer Wilson and Max Wilson had three doubles for Clearwater.
Matt Kizer's hit helped Palm Harbor National reach the semifinals with an 11-6 victory against West Pasco.
Michael May's double drove in the winning run as Largo American beat Dunedin National 4-3 in District 12 on Sunday.
Cole Neuhaus had two hits and three RBIs in East Lake's 10-2 victory against West Pinellas. J.P. Monson hit a home run for West Pinellas.
Justin Disanto drove home two runs as Oldsmar beat Clearwater 7-2. MAJOR SOFTBALL: Cross Bayou beat Meadowlawn 8-1 to start the District 5 tournament Monday. Allison Shirley tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Bee Bennett and Amanda Dawson had two hits.
