McPherson legalities near end

By BRIAN LANDMAN

Former Florida State quarterback Adrian McPherson's legal saga should end today with his acceptance of a plea offer.

"My trip to Tallahassee (this morning) will be my final trip to Tallahassee regarding Adrian McPherson," said Grady Irvin Jr., McPherson's St. Petersburg-based attorney.

Although Irvin would not specify the terms of the state's offer, it's expected McPherson will plead no contest to all charges, have an adjudication of guilt withheld in all cases, pay restitution and perform community service.

State attorney Willie Meggs would not confirm the offer.

In addition to the gambling charge, McPherson, 20, faced three felony counts and a misdemeanor in connection with the theft, forgery and cashing of a $3,500 check from a Tallahassee business in mid November and another felony charge for bouncing a series of checks at two Publix stores in mid August. The stolen check led to his dismissal from the football team Nov. 25.

Neuheisel loses appeal

SEATTLE - Rejecting Rick Neuheisel's plea to keep his job as Washington's football coach, athletic director Barbara Hedges said she was terminating him because he gambled on the past two NCAA men's basketball tournaments.

Neuheisel's lawyer, Bob Sulkin, said his client will appeal to university vice president Norm Arkans by Monday's deadline.

On June 12, Hedges announced Neuheisel would be fired for taking part in neighborhood gambling pools on the two tournaments. She also said he wasn't forthcoming when first questioned by NCAA investigators.

Should the appeal to Arkans fail, Sulkin said his client would go to court.

Neither Hedges nor Neuheusel was available for comment.

Baylor player still missing

WACO, Texas - Police did not find Patrick Dennehy in a search of the woods where the Baylor basketball player and a roommate were supposedly firing guns.

According to court documents that cited an unidentified informant, Carlton Dotson, Dennehy's roommate and former teammate, told a cousin he shot Dennehy in the head as the two argued while firing guns. Dotson said afterward he drove home to Maryland and got rid of the guns along the way, according to the documents.

Tuesday, a man who owns a farm searched by police Friday said Dennehy and Dotson shot guns there June 10, two days before the disappearance, the Dallas Morning News reported. The man's wife said she saw the two in Dennehy's car in Waco on June 12.

But authorities said they have no suspect, instead calling Dotson a "person of interest."

Meanwhile, Irvin said he will represent Dotson.

"I'm en route to Washington, D.C., to meet with the Dotson family," Irvin said. "I have a signed agreement to represent him."

MICHIGAN: Handwritten notes by a former basketball booster that support his claim he gave players hundreds of thousands of dollars were released by the U.S. attorney's office, the Detroit News reported. Ed Martin, who died Feb. 15, wrote the notes that gave a detailed account of the $616,000 given to former players Chris Webber, Robert Traylor, Louis Bullock and Maurice Taylor.

MEN'S FINAL FOUR: San Antonio's Alamodome will host the event in 2008 followed by Detroit's Ford Field, Indianapolis' RCA Dome and Houston's Reliant Stadium.
