As the District 12 Major Baseball All-Star Tournament nears the halfway point of pool play, pitching has separated the winners from the losers.
On Tuesday, Palm Harbor beat Safety Harbor 16-0 to remain undefeated in Pool C. Matt Allison tossed a one-hitter for the win. Tony Felecione hit a grand slam and Nathan Barker hit a three run shot for Palm Harbor.
East Lake got a complete game out of Martin Franco in an 11-1 win over Countryside. Franco held Countryside to one hit, struck out seven and hit a two-run homer and a run-scoring double to lead a 15-hit attack. West Pasco stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot, shutting out Largo National 5-0.
Tyler Lezesque and Kevin Burkett combined to hold Azalea to one run in Gulf Beaches' 3-1 win in District 5. Gulf Beach did not commit an error, and Doug Sanson's two-out run-scoring single helped win the game.
JUNIOR BASEBALL: Palm Harbor National rallied in its final at-bat to edge East Lake 10-9 in District 12. Cody Bergen tripled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and scored on Chris Jones' sacrifice fly. With two outs Tim Kiley drove in the winning run. Palm Harbor National remains undefeated in Pool B.
MINOR BASEBALL: Palm Harbor National advanced to the District 12 championship game Tuesday with an 11-0 win over Countryside. Chase Smith and Ryan Dintz combined to scatter three hits. Casey Turgeon had three hits for Palm Harbor National.
Oldsmar advanced to the championship game at 7 tonight by beating Clearwater 4-2.
Morgan Cowan hit a pair of doubles and a triple in Oldsmar's 7-4 win over Dunedin National on Monday.
