ISTANBUL, Turkey - Rangers forward Roman Lyashenko was found dead in a hotel room while on vacation.

The team said the cause wasn't immediately known, but the Anatolia news agency reported it was a suicide.

Yuri Koritskiy, a Russian consular official, said the 24-year-old had been with his mother and sister in Antalya, a southern Mediterranean resort province popular with Russian and other European tourists. He said Lyashenko died Saturday but would not provide other details.

The consulate was making preparations to send the body back to Russia, Koritskiy said.

Lyashenko, who was drafted 55th overall by the Stars in 1997, played in the organization for three seasons. He was on the Dallas roster from 1999 until he was traded in 2002 with Martin Rucinsky to New York for Manny Malhotra and Barrett Heisten.

Lyashenko played 122 regular-season games with the Stars, scoring 12 goals and adding nine assists. He played 17 postseason games, scoring twice with one assist. He helped Dallas to the 2000 Stanley Cup final.

Last season, he played two games with the Rangers. He spent most of the season with AHL Hartford, where he had 23 goals and 35 assists. He ranked second on the team with a plus-25.

"Roman was a quality individual who had a positive impact on everyone he touched, both on and off the ice," said Glen Sather, New York's president, general manager and coach.

In other Rangers news, free-agent forward Trent Klatt signed a two-year contract. Klatt had 16 goals and 13 assists last season while playing all 82 games with the Canucks. He played in Vancouver's 14 postseason games, scoring twice and adding four assists.

COYOTES: The team re-signed restricted free agent Landon Wilson to a one-year deal. The right wing played 31 games last season. Wilson had six goals, eight assists and 26 penalty minutes. He missed the last 51 games of the regular season because of an eye injury during a game against Washington on Dec.13.

RED WINGS: Center Jiri Hudler signed a three-year contract. Terms were not disclosed. The 19-year-old was drafted with the 58th overall pick last year.
