CLEVELAND - Rookie Jody Gerut's run-scoring single scored Coco Crisp in the 10th inning Thursday night, giving the Indians a 3-2 win over the Yankees.
Gerut grounded an 0-1 pitch from Sterling Hitchcock through New York's drawn-in infield, and the Indians won two of three and took their first Jacobs Field series from the Yankees since the park opened in 1994.
"We faced their "A' squad and we got them," said Indians centerfielder Milton Bradley, who caused a stir when he bumped shoulders with Jason Giambi. "It's a great thing for us."
The Indians improved to 17-31 against New York at the Jake.
Derek Jeter and Alfonso Soriano had two hits each for New York, which had won nine straight series in Cleveland.
Crisp walked to open the 10th and was held at third on Matt Lawton's double. After Bradley was intentionally walked, Gerut came through with his hit.
The Indians nearly put the potential winning run on second with two outs in the ninth, but Jhonny Peralta was thrown out by leftfielder Hideki Matsui trying to stretch a single.
Replays showed Peralta was safe, and Indians manager Eric Wedge was still steamed about the call in the top of the 10th. He yelled at plate umpire Mike DiMuro after two close pitches to Jeter and got tossed.
Bradley, who has had run-ins with umpires, opponents, teammates and managers since he was in the minors, hit a slow roller to first that Giambi fielded before jogging to first. At about the same time Giambi stepped on the bag for the putout, Bradley arrived and bumped shoulders with the first baseman.
Bradley said he wasn't trying to start anything with Giambi, and apologized to him after being walked in the 10th.
"I ran into him and he almost knocked me off my feet," Bradley said.
Giambi seemed irritated. "We talked after the walk," Giambi said. "He apologized and we're straight."
ORIOLES 4, MARINERS 1: Sidney Ponson pitched his fourth complete game of the season and Luis Matos and David Segui homered for Baltimore. Ponson won for the 11th time in 14 starts, and the Orioles won a series at Safeco Field for the first time. They are 3-16 at the ballpark.
Matos' home run in the fifth made it 1-1, and Segui's homer in the sixth made it 2-1.
RED SOX 7, BLUE JAYS 1: David Ortiz and Kevin Millar hit back-to-back homers as Boston completed a three-game sweep.
Ramiro Mendoza won in consecutive starts and Bill Mueller went 4-for-4 for the visiting Red Sox, who lead the majors in batting average, runs, hits, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
The Blue Jays led the majors in those categories last month, but they have lost 10 of 12, including the first three of 12 in a row against the Red Sox and Yankees.
Boston manager Grady Little served a one-game suspension. He was given an automatic suspension and an undisclosed fine after pitcher Hector Almonte was ejected in the ninth inning of a 25-8 rout of Florida on June 27.
ANGELS 7, ROYALS 1: Garret Anderson hit a pair of two-run homers, both after two-out walks to Tim Salmon, and Adam Kennedy also homered for host Anaheim. Anderson, picked as a reserve for the AL All-Star team, has 21 home runs. Aaron Sele, still on a diet of five innings per start, won his third straight outing. He has allowed one run and nine hits in 15 innings since manager Mike Scioscia imposed his limit to make Sele pitch more aggressively.
TIGERS 1, WHITE SOX 0: Nate Cornejo finished three outs away from his first career shutout, leading Detroit to its first home sweep in a year. Cornejo allowed seven hits before leaving after issuing a leadoff walk in the ninth to Frank Thomas. Jamie Walker retired Carl Everett and Chris Mears got the final two outs.
RANGERS 9, TWINS 4: Juan Gonzalez homered twice, including a three-run shot in the first, and host Texas hit four home runs to complete a three-game sweep. Michael Young had a three-run homer and rookie Mark Teixeira also connected for the Rangers.
