Attorney seeks extension of leave

TAMPA - Hillsborough County Attorney Emmy Acton has informed commissioners that she likely will need more time on medical leave to address illnesses related to her diabetes.

Acton, who first went on medical leave May 16 for what she estimated then to be up to three months, asked for another three months in a letter to commissioners Monday.

"As a consequence of my continuing illness, recent hospitalization and results of medical testing, it is clear that I may have been overly optimistic regarding returning to work full time at the end of my current unpaid medical leave," Acton said.

To dispel questions from reporters and one commissioner about her leave and illness, Acton included a three-page summary of her medical history and current condition.
