ST. PETERSBURG - A man driving along 38th Avenue N was shot Monday near the entrance to Interstate 275, police said.

The man, whose name and age were not available, underwent surgery at Bayfront Medical Center and is expected to survive, police said.

Sgt. Paul Mains said the man was driving east on 38th Avenue N in an Isuzu Rodeo at 8:37 p.m. when someone pulled up and fired four rounds into the driver's side of the vehicle. A passenger was in the Isuzu but was not hurt.

Police do not think the shooting was a random act of violence. No arrests had been made as of Monday.
