SPRING HILL - A Spring Hill teen was arrested Tuesday after sheriff's detectives said he molested a 5-year-old boy.

John Roy Asbury, 445 Merrimac Lane, faces charges of sexual battery and lewd and lascivious behavior.

Sheriff's detectives said Asbury, 15, improperly touched the boy and forced the boy to perform sex acts in April.

Asbury, a student at Springstead High School, was taken to the county juvenile assessment center.

Child gets pinned under car's muffler

MOON LAKE - When Laura Montgomery couldn't find her 10-year-old son Tuesday morning, she panicked. She jumped in her car and put it in reverse. As she moved backward, she heard a scream.

Montgomery, 29, got out and looked beneath her green Ford. She found her son, Jacob, pinned beneath the muffler. Montgomery grabbed a jack and raised the Ford, freeing her son.

He was fine, other than scratches to his face and shoulder, according to a sheriff's report.

Montgomery drove him to the hospital. She told sheriff's deputies that Jacob had left the house before without permission. She said he was angry on Tuesday because she had grounded him.

She also said Jacob has a sleep disorder.

Jacob told sheriff's deputies that he wanted to play a trick on his mother and decided to hide from her. After lying under the car for a few minutes, waiting for Montgomery to find him, he fell asleep, a sheriff's report said. He woke up when the engine started.

Deputies classified it as an accidental injury.

Man arrested on assault, battery charges

NEW PORT RICHEY - A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he repeatedly beat a woman and threatened to cut her throat.

Marlon Brandow Jr., of Chicopee, Mass., faces charges of aggravated assault, battery and false imprisonment.

A 25-year-old woman told New Port Richey police officers that Brandow pushed her on a bed several times, punched her on the head, held a knife to her throat and told her he would "shank" her if she moved, a police report states.

The woman told police that she tried to get away and Brandow continued beating her Tuesday afternoon at 6300 Nebraska Ave. She finally escaped with her children when Brandow went to retrieve another knife, a police report said.

Brandow told police that he hit the woman and prevented her from leaving the house, according to the report.

He was held at the Land O'Lakes jail Wednesday in lieu of $10,500 bail.

Stalking complaint under investigation

PORT RICHEY - The Sheriff's Office is looking into a complaint by the city's building official that some city workers are being "stalked."

Bill Sanders filed the complaint June 30 after a resident, Lisa Vayre, found city documents in a trash can at a Sunoco gas station on U.S. 19.

Without providing names, Sanders suggested that people had been following code officer Lou Barba. That assertion was denied by Vayre and Connie Bennett, wife of City Council member Bill Bennett.

Sanders addressed the complaint to State Attorney Bernie McCabe but forwarded a copy to the Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said while there is an investigation, he could not provide details.
