COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR: Receive free school physicals, health screenings, financial counseling and other services at Thonotosassa's second annual Community Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 9525 Joe Ebert Road. Call 732-3193.

ART OF WRITING: Laurie Beth Roman, one of the owners of Roman Tales, a bookstore, has scheduled a free, informal study using On Writing by Stephen King. It is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. July 26 at the store, 209 N Kings Ave., Brandon. This is the first session of the Writers Nest, a writers group for aspiring writers. Call 662-0419.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Celebrate Christmas in July from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. July 30 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 5301 U.S. 41, Apollo Beach. A turkey dinner with trimmings, caroling and a worship service with coffee and dessert afterward costs $6 per person, $20 per family. Proceeds benefit Mary & Martha House, for women and area needy children. Bring an unwrapped back-to-school item to go under the Christmas tree. Call 645-1305 for dinner reservation.

ARTIST RECEPTION: Meet Vicki M. Ferguson from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Blue Ibis Art Gallery at Frame Crafters Inc., 205 U.S. 41, Ruskin. Ferguson, a wildlife illustrator and research entomologist, will also be at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2. A portion of sales from the show will be donated to C.A.R.E., Hillsborough County's no-kill animal shelter. Ferguson's work will be on display in August. Call 645-2906.

COUPON BOOK FOR SALE: The Brandon Branch of the American Association of University Women will be selling the Entertainment 2004 coupon book to raise funds for service projects including scholarships for graduate studies, research, the Legal Advocacy Fund and the Girls Can program. The books are valid until Nov. 1, 2004. They cost $20. Call 671-3078.

HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHS DISPLAYED: Sixty historical photographs of Brandon are on display in August at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Viewing is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. Call 685-8888.

GRANTS AVAILABLE: Hillsborough County is accepting applications from organizations for projects through the Neighborhood Mini-Grant Program. Neighborhood associations can apply for up to $1,500 for projects such as entrance signs, festivals, newsletters, cleanup projects and dought-resistant landscaping. Deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 21. Call 272-5860.

SOUTHSHORE MEETING: The Southshore Roundtable meets at 9:30 a.m. July 25 in the Caper Room of the Sun City Center Community Association, 1009 N Pebble Beach Blvd. Rob Turner, Hillsborough County's property appraiser, will speak about his agency, and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy William Hughes will talk about preventing fraud.
