PALM HARBOR - The Florida Highway Patrol Thursday identified a motorcycle rider killed in a wreck Wednesday morning as Chad William Moulton, 19, of 1630 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., Clearwater.

Moulton died after his 1996 Suzuki collided with a 1986 two-door Subaru driven by 77-year-old Stella E. Karfo of Palm Harbor. Moulton, who grew up in Clearwater, worked as a welder, said Don Saunders, the father of his fiancee, Megan Saunders. "He liked to tinker with cars; he liked cycles," Saunders said. "He was a good kid."

The collision took place on McMullen-Booth Road, south of Tampa Road, in front of the entrance to the Oaks at Countryside condominiums. Karfo, who lives at the complex, was making a left turn onto McMullen-Booth when she pulled into Moulton's path.

Troopers say Moulton was heading south "at a high rate of speed," tried to brake, lost control of the motorcycle and slammed into Karfo's car. He was thrown to the road and died at the scene. An investigation is continuing.
