ATLANTA - Russ Ortiz labored through five innings, throwing 101 pitches and never finding a comfort zone.
Still, he fared better than Tom Glavine.
Ortiz earned his NL-leading 13th victory as the Braves roughed up former teammate Glavine again and beat the Mets 7-4 on Saturday.
"I don't even think about it," Ortiz said of his win total. "I'm more concerned with coming out here and giving us a chance to win every game. That's what I strive for."
Andruw Jones went 2-for-3, including a home run, Javy Lopez added two hits and Vinny Castilla drove in two for the Braves, who won for the 12th time in 13 games.
Ortiz hardly was sharp, but he pitched out of jams in the third and fifth and won his sixth straight. He gave up three runs on four hits, struck out five and walked four.
If he hadn't gotten through the fourth on only seven pitches, he might not have lasted long enough to get the win.
"It was a struggle," Ortiz said. "It was a battle from the first pitch on. But it was only out of the windup. I felt good from the stretch, so I didn't lose confidence."
John Smoltz got the final out for his 35th save in 37 opportunities - the 100th of his career. He became the 15th pitcher in history to have 100 wins and 100 saves, joining Tom Gordon of the White Sox as the only active ones.
Glavine lasted 41/3 innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits. He is 0-4 and has allowed 23 earned runs in four starts against the Braves.
CARDINALS 3, DODGERS 1: Dan Haren outdueled Kevin Brown for his first major-league victory and Scott Rolen homered for visiting St. Louis.
Haren allowed a run and six hits, including a third-inning homer by Alex Cora, in his fourth career start.
Brown, who missed two turns in the rotation - and the All-Star Game - because of a lower abdominal strain, allowed two runs and five hits over six innings after being activated from the disabled list. One of the runs against him was unearned, the result of his errant pickoff throw to first base in the third.
GIANTS 5, ROCKIES 3: Barry Bonds hit his 644th career home run and Yorvit Torrealba homered on his 25th birthday, handing Colorado its sixth straight road loss.
Bonds connected for his major league-leading 31st homer, driving a 2-and-1 pitch from Shawn Chacon over the rightfield wall to break a tie leading off the fourth.
Torrealba led off the fifth with a homer, his second of the season. The West-leading Giants have won three straight and eight of 11.
Jason Schmidt, the starter for the NL in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, pitched five solid innings to win for the fifth time in his past six starts.
He left in the sixth with tightness in his right forearm, but he is not expected to miss his next start.
CUBS 1, MARLINS 0: Kerry Wood threw a two-hitter for visiting Chicago to outpitch Brad Penny.
The only run was unearned and scored on Alex Gonzalez's sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The complete game was Wood's third this season. He threw 130 pitches, walking five and hitting a batter. He struck out eight to increase his season total to 164, most in the majors.
Penny allowed four hits and struck out eight in eight innings.
ASTROS 9, REDS 8: Lance Berkman, Richard Hidalgo and Morgan Ensberg hit consecutive home runs in the first and visiting Houston held on to beat Cincinnati for the ninth straight time.
Berkman had two homers and five RBIs for the Astros, who have won four in a row and nine of 10.
The Reds scored five runs with one out in the ninth.
BREWERS 1, PIRATES 0: Ben Sheets pitched seven shutout innings and John Vander Wal's double scored the only run for visiting Milwaukee. Pirates starter Jeff D'Amico was nearly as effective as Sheets, allowing nine hits, but gave up doubles to Geoff Jenkins and Vander Wal in the fourth for the only scoring against him.
PHILLIES 4, EXPOS 3 (11): Tomas Perez hit a bases-loaded single with two outs for host Philadelphia.
Jim Thome and Pat Burrell homered for Philadelphia, which improved to 7-1 in extra-inning games, including six straight wins.
Michael Barrett drove in three runs for Montreal, which has lost six of eight.
