LOUDON, N.H. - David Green held off a hard charge from Kevin Harvick to win at New Hampshire International Speedway on Saturday and retake the lead in the Busch Series standings.
Harvick, who started from the pole, led 152 of 200 laps in the New England 200. But a caution for debris bunched up the field and gave Green a chance to pass him.
He did, pushing his Pontiac past Harvick's Chevrolet with 45 laps to go. Harvick tried several times to pass back but never could, and Green took his second win of the year and seventh of his career.
Green became the 17th different winner in 17 series events at New Hampshire.
"He raced me clean and I thought he was going to rattle my cage," Green said. "But I've been doing this a long time and I was looking forward to racing him. He was clean."
Green, who led the points for four weeks this season, came in trailing Scott Riggs by 23. But Riggs finished 14th and Green took a 36-point lead over Riggs in the standings.
Harvick finished second and fellow Winston Cup regular Matt Kenseth was third.
By racing, the two got an extra edge on the competition before today's Winston Cup race. The track surface has been under question since it seemed to separate in the July race here last season, but the track has been repaved and few know what to expect in the Cup race.
FIRESTONE INDY 200: Gil de Ferran earned his second victory of the season, winning at Nashville Superspeedway in Gladeville, Tenn., under a caution flag.
The Indianapolis 500 winner took the lead on Lap 173 of 200 as the other leaders pitted during a caution caused by debris on the track.
He had been trying to stretch his fuel for the final 69 laps after pitting on Lap 131, but two cautions in the final six laps caused by Buddy Lazier kept him from having to worry.
Pole-sitter Scott Dixon finished second.
DODGE RAM TOUGH 200: Brendan Gaughan held off Jason Leffler by a length at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event.
Gaughan, who pushed his Dodge to the front for the final time on the 50th of 160 laps, led the rest of the 200-mile race for his third win of the season.
Leffler, also in a Dodge, challenged in Turn 3 on the final lap of the 1.25-mile speedway but lost by 0.222 seconds.
BRITISH GRAND PRIX: Rubens Barrichello upstaged Ferrari teammate Michael Schumacher to win the pole position for today's Formula One race at Silverstone, England. Barrichello ran a lap of 1 minute, 21.019 seconds on the 3.195-mile Silverstone circuit.
Jarno Trulli of Renault was second in 1:21.38. McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, who trails Schumacher in the standings by eight points, ran in 1:21.695 for third. Michael Schumacher starts fifth.
MILE HIGH NATIONALS: Larry Dixon raced to his second top qualifying position of the season in the NHRA event in Morrison, Colo. Dixon ran the quarter-mile in 4.790 seconds at 308.64 mph. Tim Wilkerson led the Funny Car session, Greg Anderson topped Pro Stock and GT Tonglet led Pro Stock Bike.
