ENDICOTT, N.Y. - Steve Lowery shot 4-under-par 68 Saturday and led Alex Cejka and John E. Morgan by five shots after three rounds in the B.C. Open.
Lowery, who has led each round, was 20-under 196. Only 1987 champion Joey Sindelar led all four rounds.
John Maginnes, David Gossett and Brett Quigley were tied for third at 202.
Lowery was one of 70 players who had to complete the second round in the morning because of a rain delay on Friday.
After a 45-minute fog delay, Lowery took advantage with four birdies on the back nine for his second straight 64. He took a four-shot lead into the third round.
Lowery parred the first seven holes of the third round, watching birdie putts of 10 feet at No.3 and 5 feet at No.4 stay out before making birdie at the par-5 eighth to reach 17 under.
Cejka, playing in a threesome with Lowery and Pat Bates, birdied No.2 to move within three shots of the lead. But he missed a 7-foot putt for birdie on the first hole and squandered another on No.5, settling for a three-putt par from 59 feet on the par 5.
BIG APPLE CLASSIC: Meg Mallon birdied the last four holes, putting her 6-under 65, and was tied with Hee-Won Han for the lead after three rounds at New Rochelle, N.Y. Han, who lost this tournament in a playoff last year, birdied the 18th hole to cap 68 that left her tied with Mallon at 11-under 202. Cindy Figg-Currier, who was tied with Han for the second-round lead, had 73 and was third, five shots back.
PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP: Brandt Snedeker beat Dayton Rose 10 and 9 at Galloway Township, N.J. Snedeker, 22, took a three-hole lead after the first 18 holes, then carded birdies on five of the next nine to end the scheduled 36-hole event after 27. The victory tied for the second-largest margin in the event - after Jim Sorenson's 12-and-11 victory in 1985. Snedeker will receive a berth in the Masters.
SOUTHERN AMATEUR: Casey Wittenberg of Memphis, Tenn., used eagle and birdie over the last three holes to win the Hot Spring, Va., event by one shot. Wittenberg, an 18-year-old who will attend Oklahoma State, overtook Georgia Tech junior Nicholas Thompson of Coral Springs by sinking a 13-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th and birdieing the next hole. Wittenberg shot 6-under-par 64 for 8-under 272.
