A sinkhole opened up Sunday morning in front of the North Tampa home of Kenneth and Dorothy Van Gundy, 12706 N Ola Ave.

The 20-by-20-foot hole swallowed their 1983 Buick Regal and damaged the northeast corner of their home.

Neighbor Bill Sharpe said he was returning from a walk with his beagle, Bailey, when he saw the sinkhole and knocked on the Van Gundys' front door to tell them about it.

"I said, "Ken, you've got a hole in your front yard and your car is in it,"' Sharpe said.

The home was not safe to occupy, and the American Red Cross helped find Dorothy Van Gundy, 72, and Ken Van Gundy, 79, a place to stay.
