PERRY, Ga. - Authorities said Monday that the bodies of a St. Petersburg couple were found in woods off Interstate 75 more than five days after they were believed to have died in an auto accident.

Lew and Hedwig Forbes left home July 12 about 2 p.m. for a drive to visit friends in Tennessee, Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Kathy Henderson said.

According to family and friends, Henderson said, Hedwig Forbes, 61, preferred frequent stops on trips. The crash was believed to have been about 2 or 3 a.m. on July 13.

Lew Forbes, 69, may have fallen asleep asleep at the wheel, Henderson said.

A state Department of Transportation worker spotted the car while mowing by side of the road Friday in Houston County about eight miles south of Perry.

Perry is about 100 miles south of Atlanta.
