SEMINOLE - A public meeting to discuss the Millennium Playground project is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 210 of the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St. N.

The Millennium Playground project, a collaboration between the city and the Seminole Rotary Club, would add a rubberized safety surface, some handicapped-accessible playground pieces and shade features. Right now, the playground is in the sun.

Tuesday's discussion agenda will focus on costs, a construction timeline and the status of a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant. The Rotary Club and the city each will raise about $25,000. The entire project will cost about $150,000. The city will apply for a $100,000 grant, said Jim Sheets, the city's recreation director.

Sheets said he hopes to get the grant application to the state by September. If approved, construction would begin in the fall of 2004 and the playground would be dedicated in February 2005.

Persons with disabilities who need special accommodations to participate in Tuesday's meeting can call the Seminole city clerk at 391-0204. For other questions, call Jim Sheets at 391-8345.

The recreation center and its Family Aquatic Center will be closed Aug. 2 to accommodate the county's Hurricane Expo, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
