Vet, rookie share lead in France

EVIAN, France - Rookie Lorena Ochoa and Juli Inkster shot 6-under 66 Wednesday to share the lead after one round of the Evian Masters.

The 22-year-old Ochoa played the first seven holes 6 under, carding four birdies and an eagle in a front-nine 29.

"It was an incredible start," Ochoa said. "Especially the 26-foot putt for eagle on the seventh hole. That was a great feeling. This is my first 29 on Tour. I made a lot of putts today."

Inkster eagled No. 18, hitting a 5-iron to within 5 feet. She finished with six birdies and had just one birdie putt from beyond 10 feet. Annika Sorenstam (72), the defending champion, had three birdies, bogey and double bogey, leaving her tied for 31st.

U.S. GIRLS' JUNIOR: Thirteen-year-old Michelle Wie and defending champion In Bee Park won first-round matches in Fairfield, Conn. Wie was 3-up after eight holes, but was extended eight more before eliminating Blair Ressler 3 and 2. Park, of Eustis, beat Lala Anai 6 and 5. The second round of stroke play, which was delayed by rain, was completed with Park finishing one stroke ahead of Wie. She won medalist honors a second consecutive year.

U.S. BOYS' JUNIOR: Medalist Sung Hoon Kang of South Korea led seven of the top eight seeds into the second round in Chevy Chase, Md. The longest of the 32 matches went 23 holes as Philip Francis eliminated Robert Gates Jr. of Gainesville.
