PALM HARBOR - Scott Wyckoff, the head pro at World Woods Golf Club, shot a final-round 3-under 68 at the Westin Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead course to win the 36-hole PGA West Central Chapter Championship.
His opening 73 left him two strokes behind co-leaders Marc Carter of Old Memorial and Jim Smith of Missing Links Range in Largo.
Carter finished second (71-72-143), one stroke ahead of Belleair's Jim Slattery and Shawn Gordon of Carrollwood.
Wyckoff, 39, played bogeyless golf making birdies on the par-5 first and 14th holes. His other birdie came on the 215-yard par-3 15th.
"I just played the course and let the chips fall where they may," said Wyckoff when asked if he tried to figure where he stood during the final round. "You can't get caught up in the numbers. Just play the course for what it gives you.
"I was patient out there and that's what enabled me to play well."
The field consisted of 55 players from Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Hernando and Citrus counties.
The prize purse totaled $6,000, of which Wyckoff won $1,100.
