TAMPA - King took control in its half of the American Legion A area baseball tournament Thursday while Hillsborough let that opportunity slip away.

Jesuit came from behind to hand Hillsborough its first loss, 14-13. The teams meet again at 5 p.m. today at Hillsborough to determine which team will advance. Jesuit eliminated Jefferson 8-3 earlier in the day.

Gaither defeated host Alonso 10-8 in the other half of the bracket and will play at 5 p.m. today against Durant, which lost to King 12-2. The Gaither-Durant winner will play undefeated King immediately following that game. Whichever team advances will have to beat King twice, with the second game to be played Saturday, if necessary.

The Alonso and Hillsborough site winners will play to determine which team wins the area title and advances to the state tournament beginning Aug.1 at Boynton Beach.
