Boys and Girls Club has rally down pat

TAMPA - Boys and Girls Club came back again to beat King 10-8 Saturday, securing a spot in today's American Legion A (under 18 years old) baseball area championship game at 1 p.m. at Hillsborough.

"These kids just don't give up," Boys and Girls Club coach Frank Purmey said. "They play to the last out, and I think this team realizes that even if they give up four runs in an inning, it's not over."

On consecutive days the victim of the rally was King. Boys and Girls club, a team built mostly of Gaither players, trailed 3-1 in the third, but a three-run seventh broke a tie at 7.

Rocky Rocamora got the win in relief and went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 6 RBIs.

Boys and Girls Club rallied for six runs in the ninth Friday to beat King 13-12.

"We've had a few tournament games like this, and I think that helps," Purmey said. "They know what can be accomplished if they stay focused and don't quit."

Purmey said St. Leo sophomore Ray Reed will start today's final against Hillsborough.

The winner advances to next weekend's state finals in Boynton Beach.
