BELLEAIR - Surrounded by lightning and heavy rain, a banner plane made an emergency landing on a Belleair golf course Saturday evening, police said.

The pilot conducted a smooth landing on the Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa golf course shortly after 6 p.m., said Deputy Chief Erv Hill of the Belleair Police Department. The pilot waited out the weather and then took off again, Hill said.

Hill said he did not know the pilot's name, what type of plane he was flying, what company he worked for or what the banner said.
