BAYONET POINT - A 16-year-old boy was arrested on charges of stabbing an 18-year-old Wednesday night outside The Connection, a nightclub on U.S. 19.

Jonathan Todd Collins of 1439 Landau St., Holiday, suffered a punctured lung when he was stabbed with a knife at 11:45 p.m., the Sheriff's Office reported.

Bouncers at the club told deputies a fight broke out inside the club and they began kicking people out.

A group of males chased Collins in the club's parking lot and began hitting him, they said. He suffered a 1-inch stab wound in his upper right chest, the report said.

Collins later told police it was William Steven Barber who stabbed him, the report said. Collins picked out Barber's picture from a selection of photos.

Collins was in stable condition Thursday at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Barber, of 7926 Coventry Drive in Port Richey, turned himself in to authorities on Thursday morning and denied stabbing Collins.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and taken to a juvenile assessment center.

The Connection, which recently opened, caters to teens on Wednesday nights, according to Peggy Hendricks, who says her children were at the club at the time of the fight but were not involved. The club does not serve alcohol on Wednesday nights, she said.
