School may struggle to regain accreditation

LARGO - The chances of Community Christian School regaining its accreditation appear dimmer than earlier this week.

The school lost its accreditation after an investigation into its principal and his numerous trips to Disney World with school girls. It has 15 days to get re-accredited and fire Dick Baker before its landlord begins eviction proceedings.

Howard Burke, director of the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, said the school could re-apply or, for quicker service, could turn to the Association of Christian Schools International.

That group, he said Thursday, would fully accredit the school with a minimum of hassles.

Not true, says Derek Keenan, vice president of academic affairs for ACSI.

"If their accreditation has been revoked, there's just no place to go with us," Keenan said. "We would not accredit a school that's had their accreditation revoked by someone else."

The school could begin the accrediting process from the beginning with either FACCS or ACSI. In either case, that would require a site visit and a lengthy process.
