There will be no talking

The motto of Mariah Carey's "Charmbracelet" tour, which already has been downsized from arenas to "more intimate" theaters and has been receiving mixed reviews, should be "silence is golden." It turns out that Carey, who's reportedly having trouble hitting those high notes, practices what she referred to in an E! Online interview as "vocal rest." That means that Carey cloisters herself away from friends and family, communicating only by a two-way pager. "All my singers and dancers are like, "Woo, we're having a great time! We're going out! Blah, blah, blah . . .' And I'll be like, "Yay, I'll be back in my room with all my humidifiers,' " she says.

The Harry Potter films are a director's dream. Think about it. They're guaranteed to be box office smashes and the film's magic and wizardry promise to test any seasoned director's chops. With production about to begin on the latest film, the fourth edition, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the buzz begins. Who will direct? The movie information Web site IMDB.com says it will be Mike Newell, director of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Donnie Brasco. Word on the street is that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which rings in at more than 700 pages, is so long it might be released in two parts.

Turns out people in Japan still are bonkers over Jackson's style. Clothing company Wakita will begin designing Michael Jackson-themed suits that will be sold next spring at department stores across the country. Beat that!
