LOS ANGELES - Restricted free-agent forward Lamar Odom signed a six-year offer sheet worth about $63-million with the Heat on Monday.
Odom has played his first four seasons with the Clippers, who have 15 days to match the offer sheet or lose Odom to the Heat without compensation.
The Heat didn't make an immediate announcement concerning the signing, but the Clippers did, saying they had received a copy of the offer.
"We will evaluate this offer during the 15-day period before announcing our decision," the Clippers said, adding that during the 15-day period they would not issue status reports.
It is believed the Clippers will match the offer sheet and keep Odom, just as they did with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette this summer.
"For me to reach my full potential, I believe it might be my time to go," Odom said last week.
HALL OF FAME: Former stars Bill Walton and Bob McAdoo are among the sport's celebrities who will present the 2003 inductees.
This year's class, which includes Robert Parish, James Worthy and Earl Lloyd, will be inducted at the Springfield, Mass., shrine during weekend ceremonies from Sept. 4-7.
Other presenters are Hall of Famers Jerry West, Dave Bing, Dean Smith and Pat Summit. Mannie Jackson, chief executive of the Harlem Globetrotters, is also a presenter.
HAWKS: General manager Billy Knight and coach Terry Stotts will return as ownership of the team remains in limbo after more than three months of negotiations.
While other teams hired and fired coaches and executives this summer, the Hawks didn't make any moves as they wait for the proposed sale of the team from AOL-Time Warner to Dallas auto tycoon David McDavid. The negotiations drag on, so the team decided to retain Knight and Stotts, both of whom were first hired on an interim basis.
LAKERS: The Denver Post and NBC have asked a judge to allow still and video cameras in the courthouse hallway during Kobe Bryant's preliminary hearing on Oct. 9.
The organizations noted that similar coverage was allowed during Bryant's initial appearance last week before Eagle County, Colo., Judge Frederick Gannett.
The two companies and other media organizations already have asked Gannett to allow cameras in the courtroom during the hearing in the sexual assault case.
Gannett has given prosecutors and Bryant's attorneys until Aug. 22 to respond to that request.
Several television networks broadcast Wednesday's initial court appearance live. Media groups are renewing their requests for coverage as the case moves through the court system.
NETS: Former NBA player Larry Drew was hired as an assistant coach. Drew has been an assistant for 10 seasons, the last three with the Wizards. He played 10 seasons in the league with the Pistons, Kings, Lakers and Clippers. His most productive season was in 1982-83, when he averaged 20.1 points, 8.1 assists and 1.7 steals for the Kings in Kansas City.
