Pinellas County Schools deputy superintendent John A. Stewart was selected as the associate commissioner of the Florida High School Athletic Association.
Stewart will take over for the retiring Ron Allen on Sept. 1.
For the past 35 years, Stewart has been a teacher and top administrator in Florida, including the past three as deputy to Pinellas schools superintendent Howard Hinesley. As the associate commissioner, he will oversee the FHSAA's athletic and officials programs and supervise the board's nine-member staff.
Freedom girls volleyball coach Tamara Wilsey was named the FHSAA's associate director of athletics. She will start Monday.
Wilsey was the volleyball coach at Armwood before taking over at Freedom last season.
They join Clearwater principal Nick Grasso and Clearwater Central Catholic athletic director Bob Cotter as new members of the FHSAA staff. Grasso was named president and Cotter was elected to the board of directors.
