SHANNON BREENLooking for something to do? Here's a super calendar, ranging from pet adoption to blue-faced enigmas.
While two of the Fab Four have succumbed to death 20 years before the average life expectancy, the other half exhibits staying power.
One of those successes: Ringo Starr, 63, who is coming to the Tampa Bay area for a concert performance with his All Starr Band.
When he was still part of a popular band called Rory Storm and the Hurricanes in the 1960s, he made the acquaintance of a lesser known Liverpool quartet, the Beatles.
He began substituting for drummer Pete Best, and a few years later when Best was kicked to the curb Starr was the replacement.
Fast forward to his current band lineup: John Waite, Paul Carrack, Sheila E., Colin Hay and Mark Rivera.
His numerous albums include Ringo Rama, Time Takes Time and Vertical Man.
Next year, Starr will turn 64. Will we still need him? Will we still feed him? Always.
Ringo Starr and the All Starr Band will perform Saturday at 8 p.m. at Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. Tickets cost $50-$125. Call 287-8844.
TODAYPAULY SHORE: A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, Pauly Shore was actually cool. Or was he? He did have his own show on MTV, Totally Pauly, in the early '90s. Still not convinced? He starred in, wrote and directed the yet-to-be-released film, You'll Never Wiez in this Town Again, a semiautobiography with cameo appearances by Sean Penn and Heidi Fleiss. For $25 a pop, you can see him. 8 and 10:30 p.m. today and Saturday; Improv Comedy Theater & Restaurant, Centro Ybor. Call 864-4000.
16 SATURDAYPET ADOPTION EXPO: Local personalities remain impounded in a dog pen until the adoption goal of 200 animals is met during No More Homeless Pets, an expo with homeless dog and cats of various breeds. Face painting, dog washing and demonstrations about grooming and pet behavior are some of the activities planned. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa; free. Call 876-4150.
17 SUNDAYWHITESNAKE: With singer and founding member David Coverdale at the helm, Whitesnake is on its second tour this year. They also have rounded up their best hits in the form of a two-disc set, Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake Collection. Founded in 1982, the hair band quickly became a top concert attraction in both England and across Europe, making its U.S. debut with the 1994 release, Slide It In. Warrant, Kip Winger and Slaughter also perform. 7 p.m.; St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa; $19.75-$46.75. Call 301-6500.
"SEX & THE CITY' SUNDAYS: In their sixth and final season, the most popular single ladies in Manhattan adorn millions of TV screens each Sunday. But at Mangroves Bar & Grill in the SoHo district, new episodes of HBO's Sex and the City can be seen on a large projector. A portion of the proceeds from food and alcohol sales go to local charities. The first airing is at 9:30 p.m. followed by encore presentations each half hour; 208 S Howard Ave., Tampa. Call 258-3302.
"RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK': George Lucas' 1981 resurrection of the adventure genre, Raiders of the Lost Ark kicked off a successful trilogy now with a fourth film slated to be released in 2005. Set in 1936, Raiders introduces Harrison Ford (a.k.a. Mr. Calista Flockhart) as Indiana Jones, an archaeologist whose quests for rare antiquities often lead to menacing situations. Karen Allen plays Dr. Jones' love interest. The film airs during Tampa Theatre's Summer Classic Movie Series. Before each film, musicians perform on the Mighty Wurlitzer organ. 3 p.m.; Tampa Theatre, 711 Franklin St., downtown Tampa; $6. Call 274-8981 or go to www.tampatheatre.org

Call 247-4225.
MUSIC OF FRANK ZAPPA: After two performances with the Florida Orchestra, Bogus Pomp offers another excursion into the vast catalog Frank Zappa's music. This show will reunite Bogus Pomp together with about 15 orchestra members. 8 p.m.; Tampa Theatre, 711 Franklin St.; $27.50. Call 274-8286 or 274-8981. On the Web: www.tampatheatre.org
"TO CATCH A THIEF': This lighter work by Alfred Hitchcock is imbued with the master's stock themes of shared guilt and romantic ambivalence. The 1955 film hardly lacks Hitchcock's cinematic inventiveness, such as a famous, often-imitated sequence in which smooching between stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly is intercut with a fireworks show that just so happens to be occurring outside in a Riviera setting. Grant plays a reformed cat burglar suspected of reviving his trade. Bring some blankets or chairs to this outdoor screening, part of Hyde Park's summer series. 8 p.m.; Old Hyde Park Village's main fountain area, Swann and Dakota avenues; free; food and beverages will be available for purchase. Call 251-3500.
