Gov. Jeb Bush appointed four new trustees to the board of Pasco-Hernando Community College.
Karen F. Wells and Thomas E. Weightman of Pasco County and Pamela S. Vergara and Irvin Homer of Hernando County will likely fill four vacancies on the nine-member board, said state Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey. Weightman, 67, served as Pasco County school superintendent for 22 years. He is a Republican. He told the Times he looks forward to the opportunity to stay involved in education. His term will end in 2007.
The other three appointees could not be reached for comment. They are:
Wells, 54, also a Republican, is a graduate of Pasco-Hernando Community College and is a retired computer services manager. She is the wife of Pasco County Property Appraiser Mike Wells. Her term will end in 2007.
Irvin Homer, 79, a Democrat, is a retired schoolteacher and administrator who has been a volunteer for years. His term will end in 2007.
Vergara, 42, is president of Skyshadow Venture Inc. She is married to E.D. "Sonny" Vergara, former executive director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Her term will end in 2005.
Board members are not compensated and must be confirmed by the Senate.
