Pasco Sheriff Bob White was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush on Thursday to a 14-member council that combats violent crime, drug trafficking and money laundering in Florida.
Since its creation in 1993, the Violent Crime and Drug Control Council has spent $8.4-million funding the investigations of 155 violent crime cases and 48 major drug trafficking and money laundering cases, according to a news release.
"The funds provided by the council are critical to local and state agencies working major drug and violent crime cases," said Daryl McLaughlin, Interim Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The release cited Pasco's recent drug sting "Operation Bahama Breeze" as one of several significant drug operations during the past year that got funding from the council. This operation led to the indictments of two-dozen suspects on federal drug charges.
