A never-released song recorded by Elvis Presley nearly 40 years ago was recently unearthed and will be issued this fall.
On the eve of the 26th anniversary of Presley's death, RCA Records announced Friday that the tune, I'm a Roustabout, will be part of a collection of favorites, Elvis 2nd to None, due out Oct. 7. Originally written for the 1964 film Roustabout, co-starring Barbara Stanwyck, the song was rejected by both the filmmakers and his record producers. A different tune was substituted for both the movie and the subsequent best-selling album of the same name.
An acetate recording of the original I'm a Roustabout sat undiscovered for decades in the basement of songwriter Winfield Scott, who composed it with longtime partner Otis Blackwell.
Scott said he came across the record several years ago, but it wasn't until he mentioned it to a reporter that it came to the attention of the record company.
