GIBSONTON - Hillsborough sheriff's detectives have opened an investigation into the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Detectives received a call Aug. 8 from officials at Tampa General Hospital about an abused child, Joshua Cruz. The next day, they arrested his caretaker, Richard Logsdon, 35, of Symmes Road in Gibsonton. He faced a charge of aggravated child abuse, according to a sheriff's news release.

Joshua died Friday, prompting the detectives to go forward with a death investigation, the sheriff's office said. Logsdon remained in jail Monday evening.
