100-year birthdays

By Times Staff Writer
Published August 20, 2003

Catherine Bond Patterson, daughter of George Williams and Sarah Catherine Bond, recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She was born in Elizabethtown, Ky., on Aug. 17, 1903.

In 1939 she married Alton Barel Patterson, a physician, in Elizabethtown and moved to St. Petersburg later that year. The Pattersons built their home from materials from the Bond Lumber Yard in Kentucky.

Dr. Patterson later became an osteopathic physician and had his office on Fourth Street N. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Patterson is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Southern Study Club, the St. Petersburg Garden Club and a local bridge club.

Mrs. Patterson has enjoyed a life of cooking and travel, two of her favorite things to do. She has a younger sister, Lucille Bond, who lives in the area.

One constant participant in Mrs. Patterson's life during the last 64 years is Rebecca Miller. As a teenager she cleaned Dr. Patterson's office and was his unofficial assistant. She helped Mrs. Patterson care for him after he suffered a stroke and remains, in Mrs. Patterson's words, "her best friend."
