BROOKSVILLE - A 27-year-old Brooksville man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, prosecutors said.
Jeremy Thomas Yother, whose last known address was 200 Dryden Place No. 19, was arrested in 2002 for having sex with a teenager and allowing his two daughters to live in filthy conditions.
Along with his prison sentence handed down Monday, Yother must serve 10 years' probation after his release, said Assistant State Attorney Pete Magrino.
Yother agreed to plead to a lesser charge in exchange for the State Attorney's Office's dropping his additional charges, which included six counts of sexual battery and two counts of child neglect, Magrino said.
The agreement was made in cooperation with law enforcement officials and the victim, who was 17 years old at the time of the crime, Magrino said.
According to arrest records, the girl told police that she had sex with Yother on several occasions and was 71/2 months pregnant with his child. The girl's name was withheld by authorities due to the nature of the crime.
During the investigation, Brooksville police and social workers found Yother's two young daughters living in a house where food and dirt covered the floors, dirty dishes crowded the sink and tabletops, and the children walked around in soiled diapers. The children were removed from the home.
