TAMPA - King running back Raymond Neal was arrested Tuesday for the second time in less than a week when, according to records, Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies picked him up at school just before practice and charged him with violation of probation.
Neal had been on probation since February in connection with a string of burglaries and car thefts in Temple Terrace that occurred in June, 2002.
He was arrested last week for possession of marijuana and resisting arrest with violence and released on $2,500 bond, police said. He returned to school this week.
As of late Tuesday, Neal, 18, was held at the Orient Road Jail without bond.
If convicted the senior could face up to one year in jail for the possession charge and as many as five years for resisting with violence.
King coach Joe Severino had no comment concerning the latest incident.
The probation violation stems from Neal's arrest by Tampa Police at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday. Probation was imposed on Neal, Hillsborough County's leading rusher two years ago as a sophomore, in February after a bevy of charges and a pair of arrests last year.
In June 2002 he was charged with seven counts of burglary of a conveyance, four counts of petty theft and two counts of grand theft auto after a rash of car thefts in Temple Terrace apartment complexes.
Awaiting trial on those charges, he was arrested in October and charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest without violence after he tried to drive away from King High in a Dodge Intrepid reported stolen that day. When confronted by police the running back ran into a nearby apartment complex, where he was apprehended.
In the meantime he was declared academically ineligible and sat out his junior year.
Neal improved his grades and appeared to put his legal troubles behind him, rushing seven times for 108 yards and two touchdowns in King's spring jamboree against Freedom High.
