20 seasons of excellence

About this section

By JIM MELVIN
Published August 28, 2003

20 Seasons of Excellence was conceived by staff writer Keith Niebuhr, who covers tennis, high school and a variety of other sports for the Times. Niebuhr chose our Best of the Best super team with input from Gators beat writer Antonya English, Seminoles beat writer Brian Landman, national college football writer Bob Harig, Hurricanes correspondent Michael Snyder and Bulls beat writer Pete Young.

Several factors were used to choose the team:

-- Statistical excellence.

-- Individual and team awards.

-- Overall team performance.

-- National titles.

-- Field presence.

We took this seriously, but we're aware this is highly subjective. So we tried to have some fun - as we hope you will.

In fact, over the past several days, our online poll asked our readers for their opinions. The results, as we guessed, often differed from ours. They are published on 10-11G along with our choices.
