BROOKSVILLE - Authorities have arrested a former Hernando County man who they said used his ex-girlfriend's credit card information to steal approximately $72,000. On Aug. 20, Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Milton Oakes, 42, in an Orlando parking lot after Circuit Judge Jack Springstead issued a warrant in Brooksville for Oakes' arrest. Hernando County sheriff's detectives first began investigating Oakes in 2002 after Isabel Cohen reported that her ex-boyfriend had taken out a loan at an Orlando bank by forging her name to the paperwork, a report said. According to authorities, Oakes had also forged Cohen's name to personal checks to make the loan payments. Oakes, who is on probation in Orlando for worthless check writing, was transported back to Hernando County on Wednesday, where he faces first-degree organized fraud and criminal use of personal identity information charges. He was being held at Hernando County Jail on $50,000 bail.
