Cross-cultural perspectives

The Dunedin Fine Art Center is not a museum (and doesn't pretend to be), but it consistently aims high, offering the kind of exhibitions you usually find in good regional ones. "Simultaneous Realities," the center's first fall show, features paintings by Miguel Arguello, Natasha Gray and Maria Dolores Gregori. Arguello and Gregori were born in Spain, Gray (whose oil painting, Skulls and Window, is shown above) in Mexico, but the three share the moody colorations and meditative, worldly eye seen in more famous Iberian artists such as Francisco Goya (his later works) and Salvador Dali (his early ones).

The exhibition opens Monday and runs through Oct. 12. On Sept. 19, the artists will be at the center for a gallery talk and reception beginning at 6 p.m. Dunedin Fine Art Center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Free admission. (727) 298-3322.
