Best of the Bucs

Through 27 seasons, the Bucs have evolved from the NFL's laughingstocks to one of the elite franchises, to the Super Bowl champions. Along the way, there have been some dramatic moments on the field. After consulting with general manager Rich McKay, other front office staff and veteran players, here are the biggest individual plays in team history:

TOP FIVE

JAN.19, 2003: Joe Jurevicius' 71-yard third-down reception, Bucs 27, Eagles 10 - first-quarter play lights an emotional fuse on the Bucs' sideline and lifts them to victory.

Jan.19, 2003: Ronde Barber's 92-yard interception return for TD, Bucs 27, Eagles 10 - seals the win, silences the crowd, closes the Vet.

DEC.28, 1997: Mike Alstott's 31-yard touchdown rumble, Bucs 20, Lions 10 - completes first playoff win since 1979 and signifies the arrival of Buc Ball.

JAN.26, 2003: Derrick Brooks' 44-yard interception return for a TD, Bucs 48, Raiders 21 - kills an Oakland rally and secures the franchise's first title.

DEC.16, 1979: Neil O'Donoghue's 19-yard field goal, Bucs 3, Chiefs 0 - team wins first NFC Central title in a driving rainstorm.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

SEPT.26, 1976: Dave Green's 39-yard field goal, Bills 14, Bucs 9 - first points in franchise history.

DEC.11, 1977: Cornerback Mike Washington's 45-yard interception return for a TD early in third, Bucs 33, Saints 14 - play helps secure the Bucs' first win in team history.

DEC.29, 1979: Jimmie Giles' 6-yard TD reception from Doug Williams, Bucs 24, Eagles 17 - Bucs win first playoff game and advance to NFC Championship Game.

DEC.20, 1981: David Logan's 21-yard fumble return for a TD, Bucs 20, Lions 17 - Bucs clinch second NFC title in three years.

JAN.22, 1983: Bill Capece's 33-yard field goal in OT, Bucs 26, Bears 23 - erases 17-point deficit and pushes Bucs into playoffs for third time in four years.

OCT.15, 1995: Michael Husted's 51-yard field goal in OT, Bucs 20, Vikings 17 - Bucs go to 5-2 and to the top of the NFC Central for first time since 1981.

SEPT.28, 1997: Karl Williams' 31-yard TD on fourth and 6 with 4:48 left in the fourth, Bucs 19, Cardinals 18 - Bucs move to five-dash-two (as stated by coach Sam Wyche).

NOV.12, 1999: Martin Gramatica's 53-yard field goal with 58 seconds left, Bucs 19, Falcons 18 - team goes on to win five of last six, clinch the division and first bye.

JAN.15, 2000: Shaun King's 1-yard TD pass to John Davis in fourth quarter, Bucs 14, Redskins 13 - win puts the Bucs in the NFC Championship Game for the second time in team history.

DEC.18, 2000: On second and 10 from Bucs 35, Warrick Dunn laterals to King who runs for 29 yards. Nine plays later, Dunn scores with 48 seconds left, Bucs 38, Rams 35 - clinch playoff berth, first-round bye and make Tony Dungy winningest coach in team history.
