Shelton hits home run on Waechter

Hats off to Gary Shelton for putting into words so eloquently what every father, mother, sister, brother or grandparent had to be feeling Wednesday night as we watched Doug Waechter at the Trop. It was a fairy tale come true for those of us who have watched Doug grow up and know the wonderful person he has become. Shelton took all our emotions and put them into one priceless column.

Students don't count at USF games

It's a shame what is becoming of college sports. The game is being turned over to a bunch of spoiled athletes and taken away from the students, who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the Saturday (football) games.

Nothing points this out more than the seating chart for USF games at Raymond James Stadium (Football 2003, Aug. 28). Students sit in the end zone and get the worst seats in the house. They are the reason the team exists. Yet they are relegated to the end zone. Where is the justice in that?

Hey ump, are you blind or bought off?

The umpiring in the series between the Devil Rays and the Oakland Athletics was a disgrace that discourages one from watching major-league baseball. How can you beat a team that has bought off the umpires?
