We're Talkin' Books Here!Grades 3-5 Book ClubBy Times Staff WriterPublished September 8, 2003 Holly Atkins is a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Southside Fundamental Middle in St. Petersburg. A National Board Certified teacher, former instructor at the Poynter Institute's Writers Camp and a teacher-consultant for the Tampa Bay Area Writing Project, Atkins says, "Writing about reading - how perfect is that?" Evan Billington, 10, is in the fifth grade at Bay Vista Fundamental Elementary in St. Petersburg. Evan enjoys baseball, football and riding his bike. One of Evan's favorite pastimes is reading because of all the cool places the stories take him and the neat people he encounters in books. Evan rarely goes anywhere without a book. Deanna Bousalis, 9, is in the fourth grade at North Ward Elementary in Clearwater. "Something you should know about me as a reader," Deanna says, "is that even though they say not to judge a book by its cover, I always do! And my judgment has always been very good!" Shamarri Hartzog, 10, is in the fifth grade at Rawlings Elementary in Pinellas Park and is a fan of Junie B. Jones books as well as autobiographies by such people as U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Oprah Winfrey. When she finishes a book, she enjoys having someone to share the highlights with. Jordan Murray, 9, is in the fourth grade at Ponce De Leon Elementary in Clearwater. He enjoys playing basketball and football and reading mysteries. He currently is reading Hank the Cowdog, The Case of the Hooking Bull by John R. Erickson. Steven Quintero, 9, is in the third grade at North Ward Elementary in Clearwater.
