The great outdoors of music

Grab a blanket and basket and head for a handful of outdoor concerts being offered around the bay area this weekend.

Lorna Bracewell, who graduated from Largo High two years ago, will perform acoustic rock Friday at a concert in Largo Central Park.

Several towns are welcoming autumn (or what passes for a Florida fall) with concerts in the park, family events that encourage folks to spread out a blanket and a picnic and take in tunes under the stars.

Most are free and feature local talent, though this weekend's fireside concert at Clearwater's Moccasin Lake Nature Park will feature a folk singer from Tallahassee and will charge a nominal fee. (But it covers the fixings for s'mores, too.)

Today

There's a patriotic theme to the concert in Tarpon Springs, which begins with a flag ceremony at 8 p.m., followed by patriotic and Buffettlike music by De Lei'ed Parrots. Bring food, coolers, chairs, blankets; no alcohol or pets allowed. 7-9 p.m., Sunset Beach, west end of Gulf Road, Tarpon Springs. (727) 942-5628.

Friday

Seminole's annual concert series kicks off with classic rock and country music by Hank Shaw & Cactus Creek. Bring lawn chairs or blankets; food and beverages available for purchase. No alcohol or glass containers allowed in park. 7-9 p.m., Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road. (727) 391-8345.

Largo's concert celebrates the 25th anniversary of Largo Medical Center. The music includes oldies by the Barracudas and acoustic rock by Lorna Bracewell, a singer who graduated from Largo High two years ago. Folding chairs, blankets and coolers okay; beverages also available for purchase. No alcohol permitted in park. 7-9 p.m., Largo Central Park, Seminole Boulevard and East Bay Drive. (727) 588-5724.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota holds a monthly concert outside the purple hall on the Sarasota Bay waterfront. The festival this month includes music by Rick the Trickster band, arts and crafts vendors and food. Bring lawn chairs or blankets; no coolers. 5-9 p.m., 777 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. (941) 953-3368.

Saturday

The fireside concert series at Moccasin Lake Nature Park in Clearwater this month features folk songs by Tallahassee-based singer-songwriter Carrie Hamby. And there will be toasted marshmallows and s'mores around the campfire at intermission. 7-9 p.m., 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater. $5 adults, $3 ages 3-12, $1 ages 2 and younger. (727) 462-6024.
