Here's our by the numbers look at the first week of Pinellas County football.
Teams ahead at halftime went 11-1 with the exception being Lakewood, a loser on the last play of the game. Clearwater Central Catholic and Keswick Christian won road games after leading at halftime. Shorecrest trailed 15-7 at the half, but rallied to beat Fort Myers Evangelical.
OUR SPIN: Only Countryside and Shorecrest managed to win after trailing heading into the fourth quarter.
The teams that scored first were 10-2 (including road warriors CCC and Keswick), the exceptions being Lakewood and Clearwater.
OUR SPIN: It's not easy coming back from an early setback.
Teams that had the first two scores were 8-0. And how's this for momentum: Of the eight teams that had the first two scores, six went on and added a third consecutive score.
OUR SPIN: It's really not easy coming back from two early setbacks.
The home teams were 5-6.
OUR SPIN: The road teams - Dunedin, Tarpon Springs, Pinellas Park, Osceola and Countryside - were favored to win regardless.
Teams with a scoring run or pass of more than 50 yards were 4-2.
OUR SPIN: Poor Gibbs. The Gladiators had two scoring plays of more than 50 yards and all four of their touchdowns were for more than 20 yards, but they lost to a Dixie Hollins team that scored five times, never from more than 5 yards.
Teams that had touchdown returns on defense were 2-1 and teams with a safety were 1-1 (Northside Christian won, Seminole lost).
OUR SPIN: The returns by Northside and Indian Rocks Christian made the score 28-0 and drove the final nails into their opponents' coffins.
The county's kickers made 44 of 52 extra points (84 percent). Half of the eight misses came in the games at Dixie Hollins and Boca Ciega.
OUR SPIN: That's a pretty good number, but the public school kickers don't compare with the private school boys, who were 19 of 20.
The county converted 5 of 12 two-point conversions.
OUR SPIN: Five of those attempts came in the aforementioned games at Dixie and Boca Ciega, with just one completed conversion. That's one less conversion than Shorecrest, which was 2-for-2.
Of the eight public schools, teams with 200 yards rushing were 5-1 with Seminole the loser. Teams held under 100 yards were 0-3.
OUR SPIN: The coaches loooove this stat. Pound that rock, baby.
The losing team passed for more yards than the winning team in 5 of 8 public school games.
OUR SPIN: It's called playing catch-up.
Teams that passed for less than 22 yards were 3-0.
OUR SPIN: The passing games at Tarpon Springs (0 yards), Osceola (19) and Northeast (21) were overshadowed by rushing attacks that averaged 205 yards.
Teams that completed fewer than five passes were 6-0. Teams that attempted 15 or more were 1-7.
OUR SPIN: Run, Forrest, run.
The county's public school teams completed 44.7 percent of their passes.
OUR SPIN: Nine of the 16 teams completed less than 50 percent. The best private school effort was Shorecrest's Ryan Iacovacci, who was 8-for-9.
