HUNT VALLEY, Md. - Jim Dent had the lowest round of the day and moved into contention at the Constellation Energy Classic by nearly shooting his age.
The 64-year-old shot 65 on a rainy Saturday at Hayfields Country Club, leaving him at 6 under. He was one behind co-leaders Jay Sigel and Larry Nelson, who were tied for the lead entering the round and who each shot 70, heading into today's final round. The other first-round co-leader, Des Smyth, shot 71.
Dent tries for his first Champions Tour victory since 1998. He would be the oldest to win on the tour; Mike Fetchick was 63 when he won in 1985.
"The young guys are just shooting better scores," Dent said. "You've just got to work a little harder and watch what the young guys do and try to do that."
LANCOME TROPHY: Retief Goosen shot an inconsistent 3-under 68 but held a three-stroke lead after three rounds in Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France. Goosen, who led by four after two rounds of European PGA play, made bogey on the last hole for 17-under 196. He was followed by Paul McGinley, who shot 66 for 199. Nicolas Colsaerts shot 68 for 200, and Ian Poulter had 65 for 201. British Open winner Ben Curtis shot 74 for 215.
JOHN DEERE CLASSIC: The third round of the PGA Tour event was postponed by rain. Tournament officials hope to complete the event by playing 36 holes today. J.L. Lewis, whose only tour win was at this event in 1999, was at 12-under 130, two ahead of Jonathan Byrd.
