MONZA, Italy - World champion Michael Schumacher will start from the pole for the first time in four months in today's Italian Grand Prix.
His Ferrari covered the 3.6-mile Monza circuit in 1 minute, 20.963 seconds. He had not finished first in qualifying since the Austrian GP in May.
The German has a one-point lead in the series standings over Juan Pablo Montoya of Colombia, who qualified second in his BMW-Williams. Finland's Kimi Raikkonen, third in the standings two points behind Schumacher, was fourth in a McLaren-Mercedes.
Ralf Schumacher pulled out of the race to recuperate from a crash during testing last week.
LUCAS OIL NATIONALS: The second straight NHRA event has been postponed because of rain.
The event will return to Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., with qualifying sessions Oct.3-4 and final eliminations Oct.5.
