LOS ANGELES - Southern California coach Pete Carroll was eager to get the Trojans' running game going.
The Trojans got virtually everything going against Hawaii on Saturday, rolling 61-32 for their 11th consecutive win.
Freshmen Reggie Bush and LenDale White each ran for two touchdowns and Matt Leinart passed for two.
The defense held Warriors quarterback Timmy Chang in check most of the game and scored two touchdowns and a safety as USC built a 52-6 lead in the third quarter.
"I thought this was a particularly good game for the offense," Carroll said. "We wanted to establish some consistency in the running game, and to take a look at some of our young running backs. Matt Leinart had an excellent game."
Leinart completed 15-of-21 passes for 200 yards and didn't play after the third quarter. White had 58 yards on 10 carries and Bush 54 on nine as the Trojans gained 164 rushing yards.
The Trojans took control with four touchdowns in the second quarter, three in the final 4:29, for a 31-6 lead.
Chang, who passed for 4,474 yards last season as a sophomore, went 32-of-54 for 306 yards and two scores. He also threw two interceptions in his season debut after sitting out Hawaii's 40-17 opening win over Appalachian State because of academics.
UCLA 6, ILLINOIS 3: Freshman Justin Medlock kicked two field goals and the defense did the rest as coach Karl Dorrell earned his first victory for the host Bruins.
John Gockman had a chance to tie it, but his 43-yard field goal with 27 seconds left was wide left. Gockman, a senior, made his previous six tries this season.
The kick would have been from 5 yards closer, but Illinois was flagged for an illegal procedure penalty. The Fighting Illini moved from its 15 to the UCLA 21 on the drive before the penalty.
OREGON ST. 28, N.M. ST. 16: Steven Jackson ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns as the host Beavers overcame an early 13-0 deficit.
Jackson, the Pac-10's leading rusher, was hit hard with a little more than five minutes left and did not return.
Oregon State's Derek Anderson, under fire because of five interceptions in the previous week's loss to Fresno State, completed 17-of-30 for 233 yards and a touchdown.
