eBay item has James agitated

AKRON, Ohio - A high-dollar item for sale on eBay has irked the LeBron James camp and might lead to legal action.

On Monday an unidentified individual posted documents claiming to be James' "first apparel contract" with a minimum opening bid of $100,000. It is dated June 2, 2002, the summer before James' senior year of high school. No bids had been made late Saturday.

The letters are an agreement between Prestige Marketing Group International and LeBron's mother, Gloria, and surrogate father, Eddie Jackson. There is a separate James signature offered to prospective buyers, but it is not on the contract.

The owner of Prestige, Atlanta-based NFL agent Terry Bolar, who is Jackson's cousin, said he thinks the seller is a former employee who stole the documents.

WNBA FINAL: Detroit needs to win Game 2 today to force a deciding third game with two-time defending champion Los Angeles. The Sparks won 75-63 Friday.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Lithuania rallied to beat France 74-70 in the semifinals in Stockholm, Sweden. Massimo Bulleri missed a jump shot with a few seconds left as Spain beat Italy 81-79.

Top-seeded Chanda Rubin beat Saori Obata 6-2, 7-5 at the Wismilak International in Bali, Indonesia. Rubin faces second-seeded Elena Dementieva, who eliminated Maria Vento-Kabchi 6-4, 6-3. Rubin is playing for her third title of the year.

BRASIL OPEN: Top-seeded Rainer Schuettler downed defending champion Gustavo Kuerten 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to reach the final in Costa Do Sauipe.

An ailing Kelli White won the 200 meters in 22.31 seconds at the inaugural World Athletics Final, her second race since her positive drug test at the World Championships. After the race, White staggered into the athletes' rest area in Monte Carlo, Monaco, assisted by someone from her staff. Americans Bernard Williams and John Capel of Brooksville were 1-2 in the 100 meters.

The U.S. women won their first 22 matches at the World Freestyle Championships in New York, and all seven qualified for the semifinals. The Americans are qualified in the four weight classes that will be featured at the 2004 Olympics.

Mississippi State starting forward Ontario Harper will miss basketball season after injuring his knee. The 6-foot-5 junior tore the ACL in his right knee during a preseason workout Thursday.

GOLF: The Florida women's team was in 12th place with 610 after the second round of the NCAA Fall Preview in Opelika, Ala. Arizona led at 581. Naree Song of Bradenton was tied for 17th with 2-over 146. The Gator men shot 6-under 570 and led by six strokes over TCU at the Bank of the Tennessee Intercollegiate.

VOLLEYBALL: Florida State (5-3) won the final three games to beat Houston 23-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-21 at the UC Irvine Sunset Classic. ... Host Eckerd (9-2) beat North Carolina-Pembroke 30-26, 30-25, 30-20 and Queens 30-17, 30-22, 30-20.

FISHING: David Dudley won $500,000 by catching five bass weighing 9 pounds, 7 ounces in the Wal-Mart FLW Tournament World Championship in Richmond, Va.

MLS: Pat Noonan scored twice as New England beat the host MetroStars 2-1. ... Ben Olsen scored in the 81st minute as host D.C. United beat San Jose 2-1. ... Edson Buddle scored his second goal in the 81st minute as host Columbus extended its unbeaten streak to four with a 3-2 win over Dallas. ... Goalkeeper Scott Garlick got his seventh shutout of the year as host Colorado beat Kansas City 1-0, clinching a playoff spot.
